Kalpana is a MGIS candidate at the University of Calgary. Her academic interest lies in a broad range of geospatial technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial statistics and its application in climate change; natural resource management; biodiversity and environmental conservation; planning and policy discourse etc. Kalpana's expertise includes geospatial analysis, image processing, environmental modeling and creating various cartographic product. Her current research focuses on exploring and visualizing the spatio-temporal dynamics of Twitter discourse on climate change policy process especially on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) using GIS and other tools. Kalpana holds a Masters degree in Tropical Forestry and Management from Dresden University of Technology, Germany. Before joining MGIS, she worked with different organizations including AusAID funded forestry projects and SDC funded rural road and livelihoods projects and gained extensive experience in natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, climate change, rural livelihoods etc.
